Escape From Dante's Inferno, or ...

... What the Hell Anne Thinks About on Sunny Sunday Mornings!

Anne: I was thinking about the Rule of 72 this morning.

Teresa: Of course you were. Wow. I haven’t thought about anything like that since I escaped Dante’s 6th circle of Hell – also known as high school math. My spidey sense is tingling … I think I’m about to wish I’d paid more attention in class.

Anne: Why doesn’t everyone love math the way I love math?

Teresa: Because, you are so super-duper special! But I digress, what were you saying about the rule of what’s-its-nuts?

Anne: The Rule of 72! I think you’ll like this kind of math. Allow me to enlighten and delighten you…

Our model portfolio averages annual dividend increases of somewhere between 7% and 9%. If we take the average, say 8% and apply the rule of 72, that means our income will double every 9 years. 72÷8 = 9 years See for yourself how it works: www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/what-is-the-rule-72

Teresa: I might like this kind of math!

Anne: Now, imagine if the younger folk with a longer runway started investing earlier and followed this golden road to retirement (aka: financial independence). Very powerful stuff.

Even for the newly retired – this is much better than being stuck at a fixed income for the rest of your life. So little effort, so much momentum. Young grasshopper, it reminds me of a law of physics…

Teresa: Sh*t, now physics, first thing in the morning … which circle of Hell is that? Hold on, Anne, I’m looking for coffee and my old copy of Dante’s Inferno!!
